Recycling in the office

How much of this really is trash?

A surprising amount of rubbish can be recycled. We recycle approximately 80% of office waste including all papers, cans, plastic cups, glass, toner cartridges, newspapers and magazines.

What services do HANNAY provide?

We provide the full range of collection and recycling services for all offices, large and small, with systems especially designed to help you deal with every aspect of office waste.

For example, Treecycler® deals with paper recycling.

Our Security Destruction Service destroys confidential papers, data and products under secure conditions.

Tradewaste® deals with every recyclable item by multicycling® in one simple system.

We recycle virtually all types of waste including papers, envelopes, newspapers and magazines, plastic cups and bottles, cans, glass and card.

Our innovative Helping Hand service manages the uplift of all obsolete office equipment and furniture including desks and chairs.

We also collect all redundant electrical items under the WEEE Directive including IT and telecoms equipment, printers, monitors and other smaller items of electrical equipment.

Our aim is to minimise any disruption to your business by offering the simplest waste handling and collection method/s thus ensuring maximum recycling at minimum cost.

What is Tradewaste?

It's a completely new concept in office recycling, pioneered by us.

We were concerned that the common practice of separating out recyclable waste was time-consuming and costly, because of expensive recycling bins.

Inevitably the problems associated with this were sufficient to put most people off, so Tradewaste, our very simple system, was born.

All you have to do is replace your current waste sacks with our tradewaste sacks and leave the rest to us.

We will uplift daily from the kerbside, so no minimum number of bags is required. Tradewaste will recycle over 80% of your office waste and will remain the most convenient office recycling service available.

Why is Treecycler so successful?

The innovative Treecycler System, with almost half a million users in the UK, is very simple and easy to introduce. We supply all desktop trays, treecycler bins and recycling sacks.

Everyone has a desktop tray on their desk. We accept absolutely all types of paper e.g. A4 copier, envelopes, post-its, files, folders, pamphlets, directories, newspapers & glossy magazines. There's no need to even remove staples, clips or plastic bands from the paper. Once full, the desktop tray is emptied into the nearest Treecycler bin. When ready the treecycler bags are removed from the bin and replaced with an empty sack for reuse. The filled sacks are collated at a central point for uplift.

Remember, by using the desktop treecycler trays you will ensure the paper is densely packed and this will reduce the amount of waste bags by a third.

For office clearouts you can use the Treecycler bags on thier own. When you're ready for a collection, we pick up the waste paper for recycling and issue you with a recycling certificate.

As an option, we offer also Multicycler, a service based on Treecycler. As well as paper you can also deposit cans, bottles, and plastic cups, no segregation required. We uplift the waste from your premises, do all the sorting out and recycling ourselves, and issue you with the relevant recycling certificates. So instead of lots of bins for different recyclable items and several waste contractors, all you need is one type of bin and one uplift.

We also offer a Multicycler Security option which covers recyclables and all your confidential waste papers.

What types of office paper can't be recycled by Hannay?

None. We accept all mixed office papers for recycling into new printing papers or paper hand towels.

What about Security Destruction?
We are HM Government Approved suppliers for the secure collection and guaranteed destruction of all confidential waste documents, data and other 'must destroy' items.

Our system is fool proof. Sensitive documents are collated into heavy duty security bags. Only Hannay security vetted personnel will collect the bags and transport them in a security van.

The documents are then destroyed 'same-day' under completely secure conditions. Finally we provide a Director signed Certificate of Destruction and all the necessary documentation to comply with the Data Protection Act.

All shredded paper is pulped and recycled ensuring environmental responsibility.

We also offer a range of modern confidential bins suitable for office use.

What documents should be security shredded?

The Data Protection Act 1998 made necessary the destruction of anything that contains personal information such as a name and address, financial or legal details which must be destroyed under secure conditions including encrypted information. Violation of this law is a criminal offence with liability resting firmly with your organisation. Therefore, anything that you consider to be confidential or sensitive, and items that need to be shredded in order to comply with the Law, must be completely destroyed or you could be taken to court.

Isn't it easier to shred the paper myself?

A growing number of large organisations now use our service rather than their own in-house shredder for various reasons. Price is a very important factor as our service usually costs less.

Health and Safety issues are also a major concern as a result of legislation governing dust and noise emissions and operator training records. Security issues are inevitably focused on who should have access to confidential information such as payroll, employee records and sensitive company information.

Other operational problems include storing shredded paper in case of fire risk and finding a contractor to uplift bulky sacks of mixed shredded paper.

The main concern over in-house shredders is that it may be more tempting for staff to throw out papers in the nearest rubbish bin rather than bother to take it to a distant shredder.

After adding the costs of labour and insurance, most customers find that it just isn't worth the worry.
