The Data Protection Act 1998 made necessary the destruction of anything that contains personal information such as a name and address, financial or legal details which must be destroyed under secure conditions including encrypted information. Examples include: payroll, employment & medical records. More recently the massive increase in identity theft and ID fraud is prompting many businesses to strengthen their procedures accordingly. Violation of the Data Protection Act is a criminal offence with liability resting firmly with your organisation. What about Security Destruction? Sensitive documents are collated into heavy duty security bags. Only Hannay security vetted personnel will collect the bags and transport them in a security van. The documents are then destroyed same-day under completely secure conditions. Finally we provide a Director signed Certificate of Destruction and all the necessary documentation to comply with the Data Protection Act. After adding the costs of labour and insurance, most customers find that it just isn't worth the worry. What company should I use? In view of the potential legal liabilities you should only consider an approved destruction company. We are one of only a very few companies with the country's highest recommendation: HM Government Approval. In addition we are members of the BSIA British Security Industry Association and IPSA Information of Professional Security Association and conform to their codes of practice. These organisations have extremely high and rigorous standards to cover all areas including vetting, personnel, transport, management and destruction processes. There are other companies offering similar services but without the relevant accreditation and insurances required by most businesses.
